Sony Hoping to Improve PS3 Upscaling

With Sony releasing a dedicated Blu-ray DVD player that is cheaper than the PS3, there have been many questions on how Sony was going to deal with the issue. They market their PS3 as the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market, and with a new cheaper device coming out, what could they do to continue to get people interested in what they are offering.
Well, they folks at Sony are working on a firmware update that will hopefully improve its upscaling of older PlayStation games and movies by upwards of 40%. Sony plans on updating the PS3’s firmware every quarter.
It is good to see Sony still working on getting the most from the PS3, but will this help them continue to sell units or will they be undone by a cheap Blu-ray player, and a Nintendo Wii combination that will probably end up being cheaper than the PlayStation 3?
